David Beckham says he owes everything to Sir Alex Ferguson

Following a humbling at the hands of Manchester United in New York, MLS All-Star David Beckham says he owes his glittering career to former manager and "father figure" Sir Alex Ferguson.

According to the Telegraph the ex-Old Trafford star experienced the unfamiliar side of a United drubbing as the Major League Soccer XI went down 4-0 to Sir Alex Ferguson's men at the Red Bull Arena in New York.
Speaking after the game, the 36-year-old former England captain paid tribute to Sir Alex Ferguson for helping to nuture his talent two decades ago whilst he was just another promising teen.
"I wouldn't be in the position I am today if it wasn't for him because he gave me a chance when I was 16, 17 years old and he had the faith to give youngsters a chance so I owe him a lot. He was a father figure to me for many years." Beckham said.
Beckham, himself a father-of-four after the recent arrival of daughter Harper Seven, said that playing against his former club was always "emotional" and despite the heavy defeat the evening would be of great benefit to the sport of football in the US.
"It's always going to be emotional to come up against Manchester United. It's always difficult as well," Beckham added, "I enjoyed the night, it was a great night for soccer in this country."
