The website of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has won the Best Overall Website Award in the 2015 Web-Jurist awards after winning alongside Best Web Accessibility Award and Best Web Aesthetics Award.
While speaking at the award ceremony, Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of Phillips Consulting Limited, Mr. Foluso Phillips, said websites have moved from just being brochures into transaction sites. “The ideal website should be easy to access, where visitors are able to move about freely, find the things they need, talk to the people they need to and transact the business they need to without any restrictions,” he said.
Director General of NBC, Mr. Emeka Mba, thanked the awarding body and appreciated his team, urging them not to be too excited as the award was just a stepping-stone.
On why NBC paid special attention to its website, Mba said, “I think the first thing is that we at the commission understand that a website is more than just a poster or window; we believe that it can assist us in doing our day-to-day job. If you look at the number of Nigerians with access to the internet, they are over 60 million, according to the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) statistics. We recognised this and we created a platform that enables people to access what we do and understand what we do, and that was our driving factor. I would not say we have fully achieved our aim but this award gives us impetus to do more hoping that a lot more people recognise the hard work that goes into it
