Common Misconceptions on Nigerian Bloggers.

I am writing this to educate and enlighten those who tag Nigerian bloggers as hungry and dumb. First off, blogging should not be seen as a profession. I for one have a skill set and businesses that earns me a decent income. Blogging for me is a passion. it comes out of the desire to be heard. Ever since i became an adult, i have always wanted to keep myself abreast of current affairs, news, events and happening around the world. Most especially in today's world we live in, everyone is somehow inter connected and the rate at which news spread in today's cannot even be adequately described as 'WILD FIRE' hence the new 'VIRAL' term.

Through the use of social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter and even Youtube for videos, information now spread faster that ever. Some social media networks like Twitter even call themselves 'micro blogging' platforms. So every Twitter member is indirectly a blogger even though they may not be aware.

Now most of us already know what a blog means. For those who don't, it's simply an online journal. The word BLOG is a short form for WEB LOG. Now i guess you all know know why most blogs have a date and time attached to every item being published.

Now to the main issue which is Nigerian bloggers.
It is true some Nigerian bloggers have carved a niche for themselves a source for Gists and celebrity gossips however how unreliable their source may be but the fact still remains. They've been able to satisfy their fans curiosity on wanting to know more about their celebrities.

Now we all know how much the Nigerian music and movie industry has grown over the years, celebrity news and gossip has equally grown bigger in the same proportion. So now you should understand why celebrity news will always be a HOT niche and lots of new bloggers would also want in to have a slice of the multi billion dollar industry.

It is out of desperation to get traffic and recognition that such bloggers will leave no stone unturned just to get traffic and recognition. It is to this effect that the public generally seeing them as being hungry and desperate for traffic.

This does not apply to every blogger. I for instance would not mind getting huge traffic to my blog but i will not be pushed into a state of desperation to the extent of publishing lies or unverified items.
Some of us at least have an idea of what journalism entails and the ethics involved and it is to this effect i will like to clear the misconceptions most Nigerians have about our bloggers.
