In Search of Justice.

The recent fallout of the spat between the CJN, Justice Aloysius Katsina-Al;u, and the deposed Appeals Court president, Justice Ayo Salami, has attracted a lot of attention from the media. With these chain of events, the nation's judiciary has come under scrutiny, and with presidential meddling of the affair, it has been an icing on the cake for international observers.
It's been said that the Justice was suspended at the behest of the CJN for his refusal to apologise to him over allegations of perjury. However, the Presidency came out to say the attempt to drag the goood name of the President into the issue smacked of politics. The question is how else does the Presidency want the public to see the matter?Delving into judicial affairs is not exactly presidential.Though no president is without his flaws, he should let sleeping dogs lie and not accrue too many controversy around himself. The President should not always flex his muscles on the say-so of whoever. He remains the Chief Executive and CIC and should use that power with discretion. If there was a misunderstanding between two justices, let the Judiciary handle the matter. The only good point in the Presidency's statement was that the Judiciary should team up to clean its act.We all agree that our judiciary needs an extreme makeover.Justice Ayo Salami can only hope that justice will prevail at the end of the day.
Even so, there is an urgent clamouring for the amendment of the 1999 Constitution and the composition of the NJC to improve on the quality of justice delivery.Until that is done there is still much to be desired in our nation's bastion of justice.
